Well, guys… I did a thing I never in a million years thought I would do. As of a couple weeks ago, I am officially partnered with Beautycounter.  It’s something I’ve considered and looked into for nearly a year now, so know that this wasn’t an impulsive thing that I haven’t thought through. Believe me, I have ALOT on my plate already 🙂

I know I said I would NEVER partner with another company after my previous experience but this felt different.  This went way beyond the business and products.

This became a mission. A mission I wanted to be a part of.  For myself.  My family.  My friends and clients.  The next generation.

This “passion project” has left me with so much ENERGY and excitement to help spread change.

I wanted to share with you a couple of key reasons in my decision as I know joining a company since I have worked my ass off to build my own at MomBeyondBaby seems a little shocking to some 🙂

The Mission

I love their commitment to and advocacy for safer beauty and feel like their mission really aligns with my own goals and intentions.  I’ve spent the last 6 years helping women look and feel their best.  I’ve coached hundreds in building a business.  Now it’s time to combine the two 🙂

I love the products

Simple.  Never join a business you don’t use yourself and agree with 100%.  I joined Beautycounter because I love their products. I made the initial switch a year ago with skincare and then slowly started replacing the products one by one.  I was using the #1 skincare in the nation but guess what, they weren’t safe and there was nothing behind it.  Now the whole family uses these products!  It didn’t happen overnight but I love knowing I am using products that I don’t have to scan and stress over.  Safer and cleaner for the win!

Making the people around me safer

Health issues impact so many of us these days.  I know friends, family, and acquaintances who have suffered from things like cancer, diseases, and infertility. Now, I can feel good knowing that the products I recommend are safe. That I do not have to meticulously read the label since over 1,500 harmful ingredients are banded.  For Beautycounter, transparency is their thing.  And you don’t have to take the company’s word for it. They are a certified B-corporation, which is determined by a third party non-profit organization that ensures companies are using their business for good. A few others are Etsy, Warby Parker and Patagonia.

Transparency

Along the lines of safe, another reason why I switched to Beautycounter is that they make the precautionary principal easy. I don’t have the time to research all my products and I know that all of their products have stricter standards than even the EU! They make up their own Never List which includes 1,500 ingredients that they never put in their products and includes the 1,400 ingredients the EU already bans. Until our government catches up, I prefer to do my own research, and with Beautycounter it is easy because I don’t have to go to product websites and look up individual ingredients one by one. They disclose ALL of their ingredients and do not hide behind trade secrets.  #transparency

Certified by the EWG (Environmental Working Group)

Continuing on the safety route, Beautycounter ranks highly on the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) website and has received their certification. The EWG is a “non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to protecting human health and the environment.” Before I switched to Beautycounter, I was already buying paraben-free products in the natural section of Sephora/Ulta, etc. However, when I looked them up on the EWG website, I found out that many of them had ingredients that were potentially harmful. One of the reasons why I switched to Beautycounter is that it makes my shopping easier. Because of their Never List, I no longer have to look up products on the EWG website.

Having an easy solution for pregnant and nursing mamas

This is definitely in a class of its own. When I became pregnant, I started paying attention to what I was putting on and in my body. These days, women are on high alert and almost pressured to be organic/natural/clean/green you name it while expecting.  So with that, many pregnant and nursing friends would ask me if products were safe.   Now, I get to be a little lazy and tell them they can use everything!  Also, with a product lineup that includes a baby balm, kids wash, shampoo and conditioner, and sunscreen, I can recommend something that mamas can use all the time and not worry!!

No Pseudoscience

Beautycounter is very up front with this, which is why their preferred phrase is “safer beauty.” Nontoxic and chemical-free are in fact incorrect descriptions for products. None of the products we use are chemical-free because essentially everything is a chemical whether it is natural or not. For example, water is one of the biggest chemicals used in beauty products.

Natural does not also mean safe. There are natural chemicals that are in fact dangerous and toxic, such as Arsenic. For a lot of chemicals, the poison is in the dosage (a little won’t hurt you, but a lot will). Natural ingredients are therefore not necessarily safe, and synthetic ingredients, which can get a really bad rap, are not automatically harmful. With Beautycounter, their overall goal is to create safer products and will do so using natural and synthetic ingredients.

Never tested on animals

The fact that companies are still doing this is beyond me.  No other explanations needed except even if the company you are using states they don’t they are likely involved with one of the major corporations that do.

But isn’t this like an MLM?  That seems sketchy!

It really depends on the business. There are definitely many pyramid schemes disguised as MLMs (learn about the difference here), which are what give MLMs their bad name. I also want to note that I will NEVER be the girl you haven’t talked to since high school popping in your Facebook DMs to tell you about a great work from home opportunity, I promise. 😉  For me, this is WAY bigger than a business model.  It’s about a mission I am so grateful to be a part of.

How will this affect MomBeyondBaby?

I will be posting a bit more frequently about the #switchtosafer not because I care if you buy product but because I want to EMPOWER and EDUCATE you.   I started a free Facebook Group HERE if you wanna join and hang with other “kinda crunchy mamas”
